Here we'll answer some common questions with the Victorian Government ESI Scheme.
Common Questions Answered
What is the ESI or Veet Scheme?
The Victorian government created an initiative in 2009 in an attempt to, (among other things):
Reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Make energy efficiency improvements more affordable.
The scheme is known as the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET) scheme, now promoted as the Energy Saver Incentive (ESI) scheme.
How does it work?
Under the scheme we, (being an accredited person), can undertake what is known as ‘prescribed activities’ at hugely discounted rates in order to generate Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs).
The prescribed activities we do are known as:
Schedule 21C – Retro fitting of your old 12volt halogen downlights to new efficient LED globes – FREE* *must be eligible.
Schedule 21D – Installation of a mains voltage low energy downlight. (driver & globe LED downlight kits) – Reduced prices
Schedule 21E – Retrofitting of your old 240volt halogen downlights to new 240 volt LED globes. As of February 1st this is now offered FREE also. Formerly $13.95 per globe. NEW
Why is it free or done at cheaper prices?
The prices offered above are only for the ESI scheme; this is because The Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates VEECs we generate by doing your lighting upgrades are then traded / sold into the market at a profit, thus allowing us to offer the abovementioned products heavily discounted & even for FREE.
I’m concerned about the legitimacy of the scheme? Is this a scam?
This is a very common and understandable concern for many people initially but the truth is so many Victorians are now having their houses upgraded that this misconception and fear is easing. For your peace of mind, below is a small list that may help alleviate your concerns:
Ask someone in your street that’s had them done. Go have a look and see for yourself.
Click this link to be directed to the homepage of the scheme’s administrators, The Essential Services Commission (ESC) which govern and heavily regulate the scheme. Here you can get more information on the scheme and even search the register for accredited businesses. https://www.veet.vic.gov.au/Public/Public.aspx?id=Home
All installers under the scheme must be licenced electricians so you can always ask for the installers licence prior to the installation.
All our products come with listed warranties and we are answerable to the ESC and like all businesses, to the ACCC.

Why should i change my halogen lights to LED?
Halogens are extremely inefficient; you could run EIGHT of our modern LED globes for cheaper than what it would cost you to run ONE of your halogen globes. Slashing the cost of your lighting bills dramatically.
Halogens produce light by burning at extreme temperatures, so they pose a potential fire hazard in roofs.
Because of this insatiable need for energy, halogens produce more pollution in order to light your home.
Halogen globes contain hazardous metals in their construction.
Upgrading to LEDs means no more changing bulbs every so often, (LEDs have long lifespans, (33,000 hours+).
Do your bit for the environment and your back pocket, upgrade now! Reduce your lighting bills by up to 88%*. Our products are attractive, bright and provide a sharp crisp, and well-designed light globe all backed by manufacturers and installers warranties.
How long does it take?
Generally the LED retrofit installation which is the free service is relatively quick, simple & non-intrusive taking about 1 to 2 minutes per globe to changeover.
At the end of the installation we fill out an assignment form & clean up. We have convenient booking times to work around you and can even schedule you in for weekends if necessary.
Does it help the environment?
When we undertake your LED lighting upgrade, it doesn’t just save you energy in terms of your lighting bills, they also reduce the amount of energy required to light your home, thus the amount of energy you require.
This energy saving means less carbon dioxide in the air, and is represented in the VEECs we create when we upgrade your lights.
A VEEC represents one tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2-e) abated by our Prescribed Activities. Therefore the greater the energy saving, the more VEECs created.
This is how the government promotes energy saving installations which in effect reduce greenhouse gas emissions!
Am I eligible?
The main eligibility criteria for the ESI scheme are listed below:
You must not have had the same installation done in the past.
For the free changeover you must have MR16 (12volt), or GU10 (240volt) halogen downlights of at least 35 watts. For the 12 volt downlights the transformer must be compatible with our product, (also required for warranty purposes.
You must own the property or have the permission of the landlord if you’re renting.
